Selling at the showroom

Consignment selling - What is it?

At Bridal Stories you can sell your item on consignment at our showroom.

A consignment sale consists in the delivery of goods to a seller (an intermediary in the sale, in this case Bridal Stories).

The goods remain the property of the supplier (i.e. the bride) until they are sold through us.

Evaluation and Quality Control

All articles submited for sale at the showroom are subject to previous curatorship through an online pre-evaluation and, later, if selected, an in-person evaluation and quality control.

If your item is approved in the in-person evaluation, a consignment contract will be signed and the consignment sale service will be paid, at the delivery.

Consignment sales service

Consignment is a paid service, worth €95, for a period of 12 months.

This service includes:

Storage: espaço expositivo, seguro, alarme, gestão administrativa da tua peça,

Maintenance: ensuring that it remains in immaculate condition, for example by ironing it with distilled water or, if necessary, fixing it, e.g. buttons that pop off

– Promotion: imagens, inserção no site, descrição do artigo, publicidade online, gestão de marcações, etc.

Mínimo de consignação: 6 meses – 50€

Response time

We receive several requests every day and unfortunately we cannot accept all dresses. Your pre-evaluation request, submitted via the form, will be placed on a free, no-obligation waiting list. Our selection is demanding and carefully made to suit our curatorship, the existing stock, our space, and the brides' demand.

Response time after submission may vary depending on the season and needs, however, we respond to all submissions.

How to describe the item

Detail. The more detailed the description, the more likely your dress is to sell.

Honesty. List all defects or stains. A dress with no surprises is easier to sell.

Cleaning. Explain whether the item has been professionally cleaned and whether there are any visible stains or spots.

Interior tag. Include this important detail to have information on cleaning afterwards and the authenticity of the item.

Modifications. Mention in the form any changes that have been made, parts added or removed.

General conditions

1. Through the pre-evaluation form on our website you should upload your item's information and photos showing the dress in its entirety.

2. We do not accept catalog images.

3. Upload images of the current state of your wedding item and/or of your fitting (if necessary we will request to use the photos, however, we will need to know if we can use them as they are or if we have to hide your identity for privacy reasons).

4. Upload at least 3 photos: front, back and details. Ideally being worn, lying on a bed or hanging on a hanger.

5. We prioritize quality and recent items, from the last 5 years

6. We prioritize items with the original receipt. If you no longer have the receipt, you can usually request a duplicate from the place where you purchased it up to 5 years later.

7. The retail selling price (RSP) is the result of our analysis and experience in the second-hand items sector, proposed by e-mail as part of the pre-evaluation and finalized in the in-person evaluation.

8. Our sales commission is 50%.

9. The item is consigned for a maximum of 12 months.

10. Each item is separately evaluated and usually we don't sell sets such as dress and veil.

11. We do not sell petticoats separately. They are considered a set with the dress.

12. Cleaning and repairs. We only consign ready-to-deliver items when they arrive at the showroom. In order to make a fair and correct assessment for both parties as well as increase the value of the items, these must be delivered with no defects, recently cleaned professionally and ironed/steamed before the evaluation so that we can check the item at its best condition.

13. Conservation at the showroom. After consignment we keep your item in good conditions and sanitized. Items are handled with cotton gloves, shoe covers are worn at the space and we are a make-up free showroom in order to minimize any contact damage.

14. When the item is sold, you will receive a message from us and the amount will be sent to your bank account (an IBAN is necessary) within 30 days of the sale.

15. If the item is not sold during the agreed period, you can collect it or, if we suggest it, renew the contract for another 3 months at no extra cost, or even, alternatively, donate it to the project.

Cleaning & Repairs

Is there an issue with your item?

Stains or dirt? Unraveled lace? Holes? Missing embellishments? Missing buttons?

Additional services

Any necessary interventions to sell the item at its best condition will be quoted and communicated before consignment, as this is an additional service under quotation.

Final evaluation

Items will only be consigned with a contract after repair or cleaning.

Donate & Upcycle

Do you prefer donating your dress and just want to give it a second life?

Is your item very old or not in good condition, but the material can still be reused?

Don't want to invest in repairing your dress?

Items with defects are not sellable for various reasons such as large stains, tears, permanent creases, aged or yellowed fabrics or pieces, missing parts, etc., so they will be sent for upcycling.

No monetary compensation is provided, as the items are considered donations to Bridal Stories for material repurposing and transformation.

These items need several working hours in order to be recycled by Bridal Stories or partners like designers and seamstress. These will be transformed into new dresses, separated pieces or other items in order to avoid textile waste and ending up at a landfill or going to incineration (where most end up in Portugal).

If you want to donate your dress for upcycling, please send an e-mail to info@bridalstories.pt.

At the time of delivery, a document of donation and transfer of ownership of the item is signed.
