Our manifesto

We believe in the transforming power of a wedding dress

We know weddings are more than just dresses and, most importantly, we know weddings are about celebrating love with your friends and family. At the same time, we believe that wedding dresses can be the beggining of a small "revolution" and that they can reflect an increasingly sustainable awareness surrounding fashion.

Events and weddings have always been associated with love, but also with waste. How to change this narrative creating a more positive impact?

The fashion industry is one the most pollutants in the world, but it seems that in the bridal area this theme still goes unnoticed. The bridal area is still a sector that is a step behind in sustainability and this is the beginning of a movement that aims to change its course. We want to reduce the environmental impact of weddings by promoting a way of consuming that is aligned with our Planet's limits and based on circular economy.

We also believe that every person has the right to wear their dream dress, regardless of their size, shape or budget. We believe that, as a bride, you deserve to feel good on your special day - and we know how difficult that can be.

This is the reason why we built Bridal Stories around sustainable practices and quality products of affordable prices. Our mission is to help you find the dress of your dreams, selecting and reusing unique pieces, creating impact beyond our platform.

After all,
the most sustainable dress is the one that already exists!

Which things have a big environmental impact and are rarely used?

Wedding dresses!

A wedding dress, worn just once for a few hours, is by definition one of the least sustainable pieces of clothing you will ever own.

The best thing you can do for the environment when choosing a wedding dress is to find something that already exists!

There is a variety of factors that determine the final environmental cost of a wedding dress - after all, wedding dresses had their impact when they were made: from the fabrics' origin and their mass production, synthetic materials (which may be derived from petroleum) or special high quality materials, fabrics treatment with chemicals, to their production with unique patterns (modeling), its transportation, packaging, finishings, until its distribution and end of life. And, as many of them are made abroad, we also have to worry with the work conditions of the workers who produced the dresses and accessories.

At Bridal Stories we give a second life to wedding dresses sitting in brides' closets, making the nuptial fashion more circular and sustainable. The goal is to minimize textile waste and value the handicraft that was invested in the execution of these pieces - we should honor that.

This was the motto that, after a year of research, led us to open our showroom for preloved, vintage and outlet wedding dresses in October 2021.

At the showroom in Lisbon, brides can come and try on dresses with our help and get advice on the style that suits them the best. Here you can find preloved, vintage or outlet wedding dresses and sell your dress on consignment through prior curatorship.

In addition to the showroom, we now manage an online classified ads platform, where brides can buy and sell dresses from other brides (we call them “Bridal Stories Sisters”) who love them as much as you do, quality dresses that are looking for new homes, new memories and a second life.

Challenges of

today's brides

In addition to Bridal Stories' main focus, that is, sustainability, are today's brides.

Bridal Stories is oriented towards a bride that values experiences more than things, a bride that defies tendencies and traditions but still looks for personalization, who seeks quality but sees no point in spending a large sum of money on a dress to wear for just one day.

She is practical and, above all, wants to live by her values even on her wedding day.
She lives by the purpose of making the world a better place and worries about the environmental impact of a traditional wedding: single-use items, large amounts of waste, CO2 emissions, to name a few.

She is a bride that makes conscious purchases and that wants to make a generally positive environmental impact with her wedding. With Bridal Stories she can have the wedding of her dreams without compromising her vision, values and budget.

Our solution is a platform focused on experience, just like a conventional store, that allows brides to buy preloved, vintage and outlet dresses with more sustainable options from different national and international brands and stylists giving them a second life, a second story e passing on a testimony from bride to bride.

There are so many choices when it comes to your wedding dress: what type of dress, where to buy it and how much it costs. What if you could add another dimension to your story?
